Jemmiro (born Belmiro Antonio Jemusse on March 16, 1976) is an artist from Mozambique. He has transitioned into South Africa in 2003 to become a full-time artist and to escape what he describes as “limitations in Mozambique” art scene. He studied drawing, painting and print-making and has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions.
In the efforts to “find himself” as an artist, Jemmiro has produced a number of art series, notably, “Africa, Back to the Future”, “Fragments”, “Finding The Inner Child”, “Supermom”, “Under The Moonlight” (which was featured in a solo exhibition in 2012), “Saudade” and the recent: “Landscape of thoughts”. His artworks are characterized by myth, humour, nostalgia and questioning elements.
He is constantly exploring new ways of bringing memories and imagination to light and with this light he captures the ethereal which seems all the poignant because of its placement in the familiar.
His recent solo exhibition entitled “propagation’ took place at MB Studio Gallery, Da Vince Hotel, in Sandton, Johannesburg.
His artworks have been sold to collectors across South Africa, Mozambique, USA, UK, Japan, Canada, Portugal, Autralia, France and many other countries.
